Dates: SATURDAY 6/8/2019
Instructor: Natalie Stopka
Skill Level: Beginner
Age: Adults & Teens
Attention all artists and art enthusiasts… if you are curious or passionate about fabric printing, this workshop is for you! We are thrilled to feature instructor Natalie Stopka, who with her knowledge and experience, packs a full course into a one-day unique workshop intensive!
In this workshop students will explore suminagashi, the Japanese craft of marbling. By manipulating ink floating on the surface of water, students will develop marbled designs inspired by the forms of nature. As we work, we’ll discuss the ideology shaping this historical technique. Each student will develop their own series of patterns using natural forces and materials, and leave with the skills to continue exploring on their own. It will be an extremely satisfying afternoon. Pack a lunch and beverage and be ready to delve into this artistic experience.
Max 10 students
All materials will be provided. If students wish to print additional experimental swatches, they can bring 1-3 pieces of natural fiber fabric trimmed to 16” x 20” marbling trays.
